Maggio’s Confectionery

Sweet Italian almonds

bedale st

TO AN ITALIAN, ‘CONFETTI’ ARE ALMONDS ENCASED IN A CRUNCHY SUGAR OR CHOCOLATE COATING

What does Italian and English confetti have in common? Well, they’re dished out at weddings – but little else. Rather, what our European cousins are referring to when they say ‘confetti’ is almonds encased in a crunchy sugar or chocolate coating. Fortunately for the sweet-toothed among us, Massimo Maggioni sells this version at Maggio’s Confectionery, all sourced from traditional, small-scale Italian producers.

You can also pick up organic liquorice root – Glycyrrhiza glabra – a naturally sweet root that’s been used in both cooking and for medicinal purposes for centuries.
